EDF Energy is one of the UK’s largest energy companies and its largest producer of low-carbon electricity generating around one fifth of the UK’s electricity and employing around 15,000 people.
In order to bring warmth to what is otherwise a corporate workspace of contemporary design, the brief was to retain the aged character of a timber floor. Highly trafficked areas such as this reception zone called for a durable wood floor to be installed.
It is hard to compete with the durability of reclaimed timber with its centuries of hardening so Victorian Woodworks used Hydria from The Amphora Collection of reclaimed floors. A French oak of up to 150 years old, Hydria’s is black-filled to accentuate its rustic character. With expertly engineered construction, and careful hand-finishing, Victorian Woodworks provided the stability and strength required to meet EDF’s expectations.
