Videogame giants Sony Computer Entertainment transformed the eight floors of its European headquarters from an outdated late 80s building into a contemporary space linking two buildings with a dramatic glass atrium.

Victorian Woodworks worked closely with the award-winning Morey Smith Architects to find a technical and aesthetic solution for both flooring and cladding in the atrium, reception and circulation areas. A rustic look was required to give an outside-in feel and act as a contrast with the more contemporary elements of the design. An antique pine was ideal. The variations in temperature and humidity, as well as exposure to direct sunlight, meant that solid pine was not suitable.

The solution Victorian Woodworks found was to use Kingsley from The Grand Collection. This engineered antique pine board offers the best of both worlds in terms of construction. Combining modern technology with traditional hand crafting and artisan finishing, Kingsley’s long, wide boards satisfied the aesthetic and technical brief to ensure absolute stability in the extremes of this office environment.
